What is the difference between HTTP & HTTPS? What is SSL?

What is the difference between HTTP & HTTPS? What is SSL?

Ans:

HTTP stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol responsible for exchange of Hypertext objects over the internet,

HTTPS stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure responsible for exchange of Hypertext objects over the internet in a secure manner. In HTTPS the Browser and requested Website interact securely by introducing encryption amongst themselves. Thus, the interaction becomes more secure. It utilizes the SSL(Secure Socket Layer),also called as TLS(Transport Layer Security),to introduce encryption link between the Browser and the Website.

Both HTTP and HTTPS are Application Layer protocol of the OSI(Open System Intercaonnection) Model.HTTPS is more widely used due to the newly introduced functionallty of communicating with the website in a secure manner with the help of SSL/TLS.
